For the sweet maroon dumplings, mix all ingredients together, form small balls or dumplings and freeze.

Cover with any dumpling dough such as brandy, potato, curd or semolina dough, place in boiling salted water and cook for about 8 to 12 minutes depending on size.

Lift the dumplings out of the water with a sieve scoop, drain well, roll in nut or coconut crumbs, serve with chocolate or vanilla sauce, berry, plum or sour cherry ragout, pear or apple compote.

Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture if desired.
