A simple but delicious cake recipe:
Yeast dough:
In the beginning, the yeast must be allowed to melt in the lukewarm milk. Later, mix a third of the flour, salt and this milk to form a “yeast dough”, which is left to rise until it has doubled in size.
Next, mix this dough with the remaining ingredients and beat well until the dough bubbles. It must be elastic, but not too firm.
Poppy seed cake:
From plain yeast dough, roll out two equal-sized sheets, cover a baking sheet with one of them and spread it with the poppy seed mixture.
The ground poppy seeds are scalded with milk. The semolina is cooked with milk to a thick paste and mixed with the poppy seed paste. Now add the egg yolks and then the beaten egg whites mixed with sugar.
Cover the second layer of dough with the poppy seed mixture, brush it with egg and place it in a warm place to ferment.
The cake is baked at a good temperature, coated with water glaze while still hot, and after cooling cut into strips 10 cm long and 5 cm wide.
