Prepare a dampfl in a small bowl with yeast, some lukewarm milk, sugar and a little flour and let it rise in a warm place until cracks form on the surface. Knead the dampfl with the remaining milk, flour, butter, egg yolks, egg, salt and vanilla sugar for a long time until a smooth dough is formed. Mix in small chopped fruits and nuts. Butter a large (or two) suitable loaf pan well, fill in the mixture and brush with melted butter. Bake in a preheated oven at 170 °C for about 60 minutes, depending on size. (It is best to test with a chopstick to see if any raw dough remains). Remove the finished stollen, allow to cool and cover with the marzipan. Garnish with chopped pistachios if desired.
