The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, as the saying goes, and many foods are said to have an eroticizing effect. This starts with oysters, moves on to radishes, asparagus spears and exotic foods such as bull testicles, and ends with potency- and libido-enhancing herbs and spices.

Basil and savory are said to “put unchaste desire on track,” chives make fertile and rev up the senses just as mustard and juniper berries do. Saffron is considered a true soother of the heart and a helper in times of need, said to warm cooled feelings and increase lust. So for love affairs, the kitchen is the place to be. The Wdr 5 love feast is prepared by Christof Lang, owner and chef of the restaurant “La Bécasse” – “the snipe” – in Aachen.

Cut the roots at the bottom of the celery generously small and brush the tuber with a brush under running cold water heartily. Place celery on a large piece of aluminum foil, spread two tablespoons of butter in small pieces evenly on top, season with freshly grated nutmeg and plenty of salt. Wrap the foil tightly around the tuber and cook in the oven on a baking tray at 160 °C for three and a half hours.

Cut the baguette into slices and crumble finely in a hand mixer or possibly with a kitchen knife. Chop the lovage and garlic. Melt 100 grams of butter in a small saucepan, mix with the baguette crumbs and the herbs and season with salt and pepper.
