Basil, Info: From its native India, the plant reached Italy in ancient times via Persia and Greece. There it was believed that basil made beautiful and desirable. A few leaves worn in a stocking or on the chest were supposed to arouse the affection of rejecting partners. And a basil pot on the windowsill or balcony of a young girl was considered a sign of readiness to receive the suitor.
