If you want to use fresh pears for the simple poppy seed cake, first process the pears. Peel, quarter, core and rub with lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.

Mix all ingredients, starting from the top, in order. Add the oil to the batter just a tablespoon at a time, stirring constantly. Mix the baking powder with the required flour and at the end gradually fold it into the dough mixture with a whisk.

Grease the bottom of a high baking tray with butter and dust with flour. Spread the dough evenly on the tray with a pastry card, then put the pears in. Bake on the middle shelf at 180 degrees top and bottom heat for about 35 minutes (you can check if this is enough).

Allow the poppy seed cake to cool and then cover (with aluminum foil) so that it does not dry out.
