For the Feuerzangenbowle, first heat the red wine with the juice from 2 oranges and 1 lemon together with the mulled wine spice – do not boil. Then let it steep for at least 1/2 hour, covered – while doing so, slice the remaining orange and lemon and place them in the wine.

Then empty the wine mixture through a strainer into a fireproof pot or bowl. Place the fire tongs on the pot/bowl, place the sugar loaf on top and pour rum over it – let it really soak up until the sugar loaf can’t absorb any more rum.

Now light the sugar loaf and wait until it is completely melted. If the flame goes out prematurely, pour some more rum on the sugar loaf and light it again. When the sugarloaf is completely melted, remove the fire tongs from the pot/bowl and enjoy the Feuerzangenbowle hot.
