(*) For a mold of 2 l capacity, enough for 4 people.
Dice the bread and soak in milk. Separate the eggs.
Beat sugar, egg yolks, salt and grated lemon peel until creamy.
Fold in rolls, marzipan cubes and drained cherries.
Whip egg whites until stiff and fold in.
Grease the gugelhupf or possibly pudding mold and sprinkle well with breadcrumbs. Pour in the dough. Place in the oven and set to 180 degrees /gas mark 3 (convection oven 150 degrees). Bake for about one hour and fifteen minutes.
Turn out of the pan. Serve with vanilla sauce.
